Insector Tips
It takes about 5 minutes for a trap to trigger after being set up. You can't be in your menu so I suggest working on the Frog Log while you're catching Insectors. Try to have one cage for Insectors that you have been leveling up and breeding and one cage for new Insectors to breed.
After raising an Insector by 20 points they will become an adult, keep this in mind. After 160 points reached, an Insector can no longer grow from being fed. I suggest raising two Insectors at a time by feeding them a few times (can be fed about every 5 minutes) to increase their condition (red angry face is best) and some of their lowest stats, then use battle feed to get them to a lvl 2 adult, then breed them to make a stronger larva Insector to raise for the tournament. Keep this going until you have the team you want. An Insector can get up to lvl 6.

For Breeding different families
Keep in mind that Insectors have different ranks and genders. These will determine the larva that is born from breeding. A higher rank Insector will act as a dominate gene except in special breeding and when the rank is the same the larva will default to the male's family. Each family has 8 ranks. I won't be listing all of the Insectors and their ranks here. You can find all of that information elsewhere. I suggest that you build a diverse team and try them out in the tournament until you find ones that you like and then make a plan to get the highest rank of that family.
Your Goal is to build up an Insector's stats "Like Str" and combine it with another Insector that is building a different stat "Like Def" so that 90% of an Insector's highest stat is passed to the new Larva. One Insector that is being fed a Seventhmoon will build all of their resistances except Knockback so they'll have to breed with an Insector that is being fed Sticky Gum. This will result in high resist stats for the Larva.
One of the easiest ways to win a match is by knocking your opponent off the board. You can do this with a few Insectors like Staggy, Flutterbug, and Itsahorse.
I've caught different Insectors at different locations with different bait. I didn't record my findings. It seems that some Insectors don't go after particular bait but most will go after Sanchez Fruit.
