State of Decay 2 "finding the best Traits"

When you start a new community on State of Decay 2, you may see the option to skip the tutorial and wonder what that might change in terms of selecting your characters. You may also already know about all this and just want me to move on. Trust me, you can scroll down and get started if you need to. I just want to introduce the concept to new players first.

In a new game, you're allowed to see the stats of the three new characters you can start a community with. You don't have to start with these three. Each character has a refresh button below their stats. You can click this button for hours, and I have. The reason you might do so is to find one with the proper traits to complement either your play style or the other characters. It can get confusing and search for every trait that pops up can take a lot of time.

What I hope this will do is provide a narrower view at what to look for. There will be some thing you want your characters to have and a big list of things you don't want them to have for one reason or another. I'll only be using a small amount of the information for each trait so IF you want to look into them more, there are places that have all the details.

TRAITS YOU MIGHT WANT

Fishing

The Fishing skill provides you with a daily 2 food income and that can be very helpful but there are some traits that provide this skill that have better benefits than others.

1.From the Great Lakes | provides +10 stamina, some skill points, and the Hero Bonus (Nose to Tail)
2.Fish Noodler | provides some skill points and the Hero Bonus (Nose to Tail)
3.Fished Professionally | provides some skill points and the Hero Bonus (Nose to Tail)
4.Angler | provides some skill points and the Hero Bonus (Outdoor Living)

(Nose to Tail) gives an extra food per day
(Outdoor Living) adds 2 extra beds

The other traits for fishing are just bad. From a Fishing Town, Into Fly Fishing, and Learned to Fish.

Lichenology

Lichenology is the study of a microscopic symbiotic organism. Fungus or alga, I guess. There are only two that give this skill so it's very rare but very helpful. It provides you with knowledge of gardening, knowledge of herbalism, and your community with 2 meds per day.

1.Lichenologist | provides some skill points and the Hero Bonus (Analytical Methods)

(Analytical Methods) gives a 50% boost in experience gained to your community.

The other trait is Learned about Lichen and has no Hero Bonus.

Literature

It may take up a skill and a trait but if you want a character to master their other skills really fast, this rare skill is great to have. It gives a character +6 morale, knowledge of art, and a 100% boost in experienced gained.

1.English Major | gives a moral bonus from a lounge, some skill points, and the Hero Bonus (Journal Writing)

(Journal Writing) gives a 25% boost in experience gained to your community.

You could also get Rare Book Collector but you won't get the Hero Bonus.

Hygiene

Seeing some of these traits worried me but they're a really good thing to have if you get hit by the zombies a lot. This gives you +100 infection resistance and +20 max health.

1.House Had Black Mold | provides some skill points and the Hero Bonus (Cleaning Chart)

(Cleaning Chart) gives your whole community 50% infection resistance.

All three other current traits that give you this skill just are not any good without the Hero Bonus. Just avoid Learned Better Hygiene, Preschool Teacher, and Sewage System Operator.

There are some other good Hero Bonuses that you may come across when adding new members to your community. It's a good list but I'll finish this off with the ones that I think would be the most beneficial. I don't know what traits you'll find them on though.

(Back From the Edge) +15 Max Health
(Hygiene Standards) +100% Infection Resistance
(Lights Out) +15 Max Stamina
(Meditation) +6 Morale
(Medical Reference) +1 meds per day
(Pack Maintenance) +10 Carrying Capacity
(Sharpening Regimen) -10% Melee Weapon Durability Loss

Bad traits are their own list and I'll get that up as soon as I can.

Thank you for your time
