A Star Wars Mishistory

In an all too talked about and debated scene from the first Star Wars movie, there is a moment of great misunderstanding. The argument was really only created because of some of the changes that George made in the special edition. I'm not talking about some actor smacking his head on a doorway or even a gunner letting an escape pod go without creating unnecessary space debris, that can make the empire look bad, for no reason. This is about one of the dumbest arguments ever brought up in movie history. That's right, I'm talking about Chewy not getting his medal! Just kidding.

Who shot first? This time for real. That is the issue I want you to consider. I have a theory that might bring new light to this dark controversy. In the special edition of "Star Wars" A New Hope, you can catch a jumpy moment of Han dodging a blaster shot from Greedo and then firing back. The choppy change is all too obvious. When watching this scene, I get the feeling that there was a bit of foul play involved. It's only natural to think that the shots fired could have been switched, especially without any reference from the original.

Here is where we have the choice. Did Han shoot first in the original? Did George make Greedo shoot first because it was his original vision? Enough of this evasive talk. I think Greedo's blaster malfunctioned and blew him up. This would mean that Han never fired a shot because he never needed to. He still seems like the kind of character to shoot first and he was prepared to do so. I know what you're thinking and I was there once too. I've taken a look at the original cut of the scene. Frame by frame shows nothing more than Han and Greedo sitting across from each other, then a few frames of a puff of smoke accompanied by sparks and light, then back to Han and a charred body of what was once Greedo. Tell me who shot first according to that.

You could say that Greedo never shot at all because Han didn't have a blast mark anywhere near him but I say Han never shot at all. The amount of damage Greedo suffered was more than what even an illegally modified blaster could do. What was left of him looked more like Boba's disintegration. Han walks off like he never did a thing. I don't know if Han could have known that Greedo's blaster was going to explode but he sure had a lot to say to someone he was going to shoot anyway. Even when ignoring the psychological view of the conversation there is still the issue that remains. The jumpy scene that was added, was taken from a different moment in the conversation and spliced in to give room for the visual lasers so that we could see Han reacting to Greedo shooting. Either way, if you are just looking at the original, all there is to see is a puff of smoke and a dead body.

Greedo either shot himself or his blaster blew him up.

Thank you for your time.
