Sylvester. His name is Sylvester. If you haven't gotten the theme by now, I can't help you. This is the kind of person that you might see wandering the streets without direction. When he talks, you know what he's trying to say but it's not likely he communicated it well. He's a great father figure but only because he's so willing to teach others. He loves to explore and go on adventures but they tend to land him in trouble. What else could I really say about him? It's not like he's really that predictable. I can say, that on a day like today, we are sure to see him do something worth writing about.
First we need to find the man. Getting past his unpredictability for a moment, we'll have to assume that today he has a few destinations. We can check a few of the places that catch his interest. He'll likely be found either near something unique and visually stimulating or a place that has a lot of people. It's still early in the day and with everyone at work we're not going to find many places with a crowd.
Taking a look down Main Street is going to be the best start. On the most Southern end stands Grandma Nancy's Grill. It's a nice place and has good food but Sylvester packs and eats his own meals every day. Moving North up the street is the local bike shop. They have some fascinating things to look at. With all the metal frames and gears there is a good place to find the man. He's not here though, so we have to move on.
The next building is an antique shop. How could he ignore taking a look in here every week? The shop is always buying, selling, and trading. Their inventory changes enough to keep people guessing what will be on the shelves. You'll find cases of jewelry, fishing lures, and coins. Somewhere in the back there are lots of old chairs, couches, desks, and dressers. On the other end there are shelves of glasses and plates as well as boxes of old records and books. We seemed to have gone around enough to know he's not here either. Time to move on.
I think the next group of buildings can be skipped over quite fast. There's the License Bureau, Kellogg's Attorney office, Post office, Main Street Apartments, Sunny Day Care, The VA, Sylvester, Bart's Office Supplies, Dave and Stan Welding, and a carpet shop that has never had a name. The next thing to do is to check one of the buildings on the North end. I would say our best- Wait a second. Was one of those Sylvester himself?
No no no. Let's go back and take a look at that again. He was between two buildings standing next to a trash can. I'm sure I saw him there right after the VA and before the office supply building but he's not there now. I wonder if he was heading North or South. I didn't see him on the way back South. He also doesn't appear to be any further South. Perhaps he went in one of the buildings. He's not in either of them though. The VA isn't open right now and the office supply building is currently only occupied by one employee behind the counter. Could I have lost him that easily or did I just imagine him?
Maybe he just crossed the street to the other side. There are lots of interesting things going on over there. Nothing that he should be aware of. That is a third dimension and Sylvester is a two dimensional character that I'm writing about in a blog. It just wouldn't be possible for him to cross the boarder like that. I'll check anyway just to be sure. All I have to do is turn around and look behind the third dimension, behind the veil of words and thought.
There he is. Standing in the blank unwritten space. He's smiling at me. Does he know where he is. "Sylvester? Sylvester what are you doing there?" He doesn't give me a reply. He just stands there with that smile. So stiff. He's just so happy with where he is. This can't be. How was he able to do this? I created him and he has gone beyond the scope of everything I know. And he stands there with that smile that I can't even explain. "Sylvester, do you know where you are?" Still no reply from him. Just that smile.
Wait. What's he doing now? He's turned away. He's walking into the emptiness. "Come back. You can't go that way. The story is over here. Don't you want to be part of my story?"
