Jake Lumin awakens in a hospital vat inside of one of Sir George's kingdoms on the planet Mesa.
Sir George tells Lumin that he saved his life. He offers Lumin the opportunity to train with him as part of his Royal Guard.
Lumin meets the rest of the Royal Guard, a mostly enthusiastic bunch, Commander Mim, Gaydian, Gorth, Botos, and John Lumin.
Before Lumin has time to settle in and make a decision, reports come in about a Mashen causing trouble on South Mesa.
Sir George sends Gorth, Botos, and John to confront the Mashen. Lumin follows them to observe.
The Mashen, Drak, claims to be the new ruler to Apacoight's throne. He demands that everyone turn over any Mashens that might be taking refuge on the planet.
Botos tries to approach Drak to tell him to leave but Drak knocks Botos down. Commander Mim tells them, over a transmission, to attack and bring him down.
Drak fights back and proves to be too powerful for Gorth, Botos, and John to handle on their own.
Sir George takes this opportunity to have his team convince Lumin that they need his help.
Lumin tells the other three to step back. With just a few hits, Lumin causes Drak to flee, Drak says that he will return with his Titans.
Lumin returns to Sir George with the three members of the Royal Guard. He agrees to be in Sir George's debt as long as he can keep fighting stronger foes.
